Family/Community Involvement

Mrs. Karen Hudson serves as the Family and Community Involvement Coordinator, a position she has held for over 14 years. Her office is located at 169 Briarwood Street inside Briarwood School.  The office is an inviting place where families and community can gather information about the schools & activities.   We strive to keep you informed & involved!
We believe that family engagement means the participation of parents and family members in regular two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities, including ensuring:

  • That parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning.
  • That parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education at school
  • That parents are full partners in their child’s education and are included, as appropriate, in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child.

Office of Special Programs

The Benton County School System is committed to having students reach their highest levels of academic and personal performance.  The Benton County Board of Education and its employees attempt to provide effective instructional leadership, responsible fiscal management, and a healthy learning environment for all students.  The goal of the school district is that students be prepared to ultimately be successful and productive citizens in our democratic society. All children with disabilities residing in the state, including children with disabilities who are homeless children or are wards of the state, and children with disabilities attending private schools, regardless of the severity of their disability, and who are in need of special education and related services, are identified, located and evaluated; and a practical method is developed and implemented to determine which children are currently receiving needed special education and related services.  A proportionate share of IDEA dollars is set aside to provide services to eligible parentally-placed private school children.

Who is Eligible for Services?

If you suspect that your child needs additional educational support to achieve his or her educational potential, the Benton County School System strongly encourages you to contact us.  The school system will provide a FREE screening and possible full evaluation of your child to determine any special needs and services for which your child might be eligible.  The Benton County School System adheres to all federal and state requirements as outlined in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) for the State of Tennessee Special Education Eligibility Standards.
