Benton County Schools

Title I of No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001, Pub. L. No. 107-110 requires support of parents' right-to-know about educational issues in Benton County.

As a parent you have a right to request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child's classroom teachers and any paraprofessional providing support to your child. Information may include:

  • Whether the teacher has met State qualification and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction.

  • Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or provisional status through which State qualification of licensing criteria has been waived.

  • The baccalureate degree major of the teacher and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree.

  • Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.

For specific information regarding teacher qualifications, the Board of Education recommends the Tennessee Department of Education, Teacher Licensing Web available online. The site location is:

https://www.k-12.state.tn.us/tcertinf/Search.asp

Type the particular teacher's name. Inserting an ID or Social Security number is not a requirement nor necessary. In fact, you are not entitled to that information. If you do not have access to a computer, you may use one at the school your child attends. Please contact the principal for arrangements.

In addition, the school will give notification to any parent of students that are being taught by a teacher who is currently working toward the new law requirements as defined NCLB highly qualified teacher.

The Benton County School System addresses the importance of communication between home and school on an ongoing basis. In continuing measures in the support of parents' right-to-know about educational issues and as a requirement of No Child Left Behind Act , our system sends a copy of the report card of the school your child attends. This is public information the State Department of Education compiles from three-year averages in both achievement (academic) and value-added scores (growth of grades and individual students) based on test score data. In addition, attendance, promotion, writing assessment, and ACT scores are given a grade as well. These school report cards are the primary instrument for guiding the development of school improvement plans which assist each school in the evaluation of curriculum, teaching strategies, student progress, and goal timelines.

More information and explanations are available on the State Department website:

http://www.tn.gov/education/nclb/

As a parent you have a right to request a copy or to see the school improvement plan. You may direct specific questions to the administration of the school, the Supervisors of Instruction, or the Director of Schools.

There are no Benton County schools identified for improvement, corrective action, or labeled as "high Priority."

Our entire education system shares responsibility and dedication to successful student academic achievement and challenges to build partnerships to help students achieve the State's high standards.
